savings process and installing controls to allow idling grinders to shut off

10/13/2008 7:41 PM

I want to start savings process and installing controls to allow idling grinders to shut off.

On my plan i have 37 grinders ranging from 7.5 HP through 50 HP.

All of them simply plugged in and use simple on/off button controls.

Maybe you or some of your costumers use some kind of sensors with motor controls to identify when material is entering the grinder please contact me asap.

Hello xarkov1967

  • The grinders you have - Are they automatically fed grinders?
  • What periods of "nothing to grind" do they have?
  • Is the grinding operation repeated on the same part - crankshaft for example?
  • What material are you actually grinding?
  • How much material is being removed?
  • Is the grinding operation a mass-production run, with hundreds or thousands of the same product being ground?
  • Other useful advice please.

Sensors could be optical, or if a grinder has been set up to automatically grind to a particular dimension, the motor current or noise of grinding (acoustic sensor) could be monitored, and auto-shut down the grinder via a simple contact to disengage the contactor coil of the motor concerned.

A few details would assist with a better reply.

Kind Regards....

Hello Sparkstation.

According to your letter i am sending you the answers for you questions.

1. All grinders are simply plugged in and use simply on/off button controls.

2. I work on blow and injection molding process, Sometimes the grinders would work for a long period of time (dependes of the order) but i want to shut it down for machine maintenance, repair, other kind of work whre i need to stop blow or injection molding machines.

3. I acually use high density and low density of PE.

4.Usual after deflashing access is runinng from 300g for small to 1.2-1.5 for a big machine.

5. We produce houndred thousand bottles and containers during the year.

6. Grinders are left operating continuosly because there is concern that turning them off will lead to grinders being loaded prior to start up.

It doesn't sound like your worried about holding tight tolerances, where grinding of metal is concerned and tolerance are less then .001" or .03mm, we don't ever turn them off. It takes too long to get them warmed up again.

So, you're using these grinders to regrind plastic? Something as simple as a plug in timer you can find these at most industrial supply companies (if you're running a low voltage motor) might do the trick. Of course, a small dose of training would be required to make sure they don't load the machine before they check that it's running...it can get pretty expensive to engineer inattention out of the process

But this could be a quick and inexpensive solution to start with.

Cheers!
