RSLinx OPC server with Wonderware InTouch without OPCLink

10/15/2008 9:43 AM

Hi,

I am having RSLinx Gateway and WodnerWare Intouch 10.0.

I want to connect ControlLogix L63 processor with Ethernet IP(1756-ENBT) to Wonderware. I have configured the topic in RSLinx Gateway.

I am trying to connect RSLinx with Wonderware. I tried "RSLinx" as application Name at Access Name Congiguration and put same OPC Topic name as in RSLinx OPC topic configuration with configuration to "Advise All Items". This starts the local RSLinxs serverice if it is not started.

I tried to creat a tag at wonderware Tag database with Created AccessName for the RSLinx OPC and made Item Name as same as TagName in ControlLogix.

I can's see the ControlLogix Tag value at Wodnerware.

I checked the RSLinx Active Topics, this topic is not there at the Active Topic list.

I think there is problem with the following:

01. Application Name at Access Name Configuration at Wonderware.

What is the application Name to be configured at the Application Name at Wonderware?

02. Item Name at Wonderware Tag DataBase.

Does it require to have some Prefix for the Item name Tag definition at Wondwerware Tag Database?

Note that

01. If use OPCLink utility with Wondwerware Intouch and RSLinx it works.

02. If I use DDE communication at Access Name configuration in Wonderware Intouch, it can communicate to RSLinx and Controller.

Please suggest.

Thanks,

Makarand

Hi Makarand,

If 10 is the same as 9.5 (and earlier), it is not an OPC client so it will not be able to create a link to RSLinx. Using DDE (or FastDDE) is not an good option, especially if you use multiple topics reliability is reduced. The simplest way is to use OPCLink, which provides a link between an OPC Server and Suitelink, and it is quite reliable. Another option is to use the Wonderware software FSGateway, this provides a link between Intouch and an OPC server.

Regards,

Trevor.

Makarand,

I would use the Wonderware ABCIP DAServers which uses the Wonderware SuiteLink protocol for ControlLogix. This way you only need to install one program.

If you do want to use RSLinx use FSGateway instead of OPCLink.

Read champter 4 of the FSGateway documentation. You have to name the InTouch topic as follows "OPCServer1_OPCGroup1" were OPCServer1 the FSGateway OPCServer name and OPCGroup is the FSGateway OPCGroup Name.

You must create an Topic in Rslinx

Eg. PLCABL63 this name is the topic in rslinx. It is the link with your PLC.

In WOnderware You must have this:

Access is any name that you want Eg. L63TOPIC

Node name no matter

Application Name is RsLinx

Topic Name is PLCABL63 the same name topic

protocol DDE

and Advice Active Items Only

With this configuration you can access data from Your PLC.

In each tag you must have the name of your AccessName L63TOPIC
