Flanged Transmitter

11/06/2008 12:44 PM

Dear Frnds,

We are having one low pressure tank (API 2000) with Flanged Transmitter For Measuring LEVEL,mounted at the bottom(High side).

Normally the low Side is vented , but in This Installation it has got Impulse Tube Connected from the top OF Tank to LOW side , May I know Whats the purpose of this scheme

Regards

Jose

Hi, josej ...If the tank is closed or top not open to atmosphere, one reason to have capillary tube on the low side will be to keep the leg from filling up with condensate if this occurs the calibration of the transmitter will be affected. If it's an open top tank in my opinion capillary tube on the low side is not necessary venting it will be sufficient..espero que esto te ayude.

The instrument is a differential pressure transmitter. The purpose of the second connection is to give a reference barometric pressure, so that local weather changes do not affect the setting of the instrument, as would be the case with a straight pressure transmitter with only 1 connection.

The second connection is connected to the vapour space above the liquid because that's the correct place for it to go.

What's in the tank? Is it smelly/toxic/flammable? Is the vapour space blanketted or pressurised?

Well it is only the breathing of the tank that's may vary the small pressure change in the tank (due to loading and unloading of the tank) hence the L.P. connection to balance the head
