Re: I.C NUMBERS & IT'S CONSTRUCTION

Hello hardik makwana

In the early days of IC's there were reference books, but because these days there are so many IC's there does not appear to be a complete reference source.

However, use of a common Internet Search Engine gives: Google Results 1 - 10 of about 1,390,000 for IC reference. (0.19 seconds), and many of the websites may assist you quite well.

All IC's normally have identification which may be a Name/Logo and number, sometimes a generic number used by many makers of a very common type.

From the Name/Logo, you can refer to the maker, who normally assists you, as they do want to sell more of their products to you in the future.

Beware of the "clever" makers, like Hewlett Packard (HP) years ago with an IC fitted to their series of Digital Multimeters.

Those IC's sometimes failed, and because there appeared to be no marking on the actual IC, a replacement had to be ordered at high cost as a HP Part Numbered IC.

Some enterprising technician discovered that an IC in common use and thus quite cheap and easily available in many electronic parts stores would replace the special HP IC, but the IC had to have the pins bent the other way (In reverse) to work.

It was later discovered that HP ran a set of IC's through the pin-bending dies upside-down, and buffed off all identifying marks, to ensure that costly part-numbered spares could be sold to customers whose IC's had failed in their expensive HP Multi-meters.

Exposed by a national Australian Electronics magazine, the publicity did not assist HP sales amongst those including myself, who read of the trick.

Trust you feel assisted.

Kind Regards....

Hello Frank787

I can hear the ghostly voice of Eccles in "The Goon Show" voice saying: "You rotten swine".

But just to say I have also used the same trick.

Kind Regards....

Hello sparky,

Is that the one spoken by Spike Millegan "She's fallen in the water"?

Spoken in a very high camp voice as hi jiggled his throat. Or was it Peter Sellers?

Do you have the part numbers?

Have a look at the LOGO, that will generally lead you to the manufacturers web site, the ceramic based with gold lids may be a bit of a concern tho
