Vapor Liquid Disengagement Area in Boiler

11/13/2008 11:53 AM

How one can calculate the disengagement area above the water level for steam in steam generator (Boiler)?

Errr...I don't think it can be calculated!

It can be measured though!

The minimum volume for disengagement is set at a point in which liquid begins to carry-over. Since steam is free of solids it has a very low conductivity and other attributes that influence quality. You can find the min. volume for disengagement by raising the steam drum level and monitoring the steam outlet with a sodium analyzer or similar instrument. You will see a jump in reading when liquid is carried over.

Steam quality is set based on boiler type. All boilers should meet ASME guidelines to ensure safe operation.

I hope this helps!
