Significance on kinamatic viscosity and dynamic viscosity.

11/14/2008 6:15 AM

Hi... Can anybody tell me the significance of kinematic viscosity and dynamic viscosity. Is it that kinamtic viscosity is more significant in case of blended fluids and why?

Thank you in advance.

In a blend, the dynamic viscosity of each component will be different. If you know the kinematic viscosities, you can calculate a Viscosity Blending Index for the blend. This is useful, for example, in comparing whether SAE30 or 10W-40 oil better suits your needs.

There is no particular significance to either. The kinematic viscosity is merely the dynamic viscosity divided by the density.

How about a textbook on fluid mechanics, perhaps?
