Air Receiver

Dear all...

my company plant is using 1 air receiver for all process area (Biodiesel Process ),and using Air Compresser (ZT 75 VSD). what is want every1 opinion is, IF i install more air receiver(add. 2 or 3 air revceiver ) does it will make out system better????

Extra Receivers will only help if you have a problem getting short high flow air flow to some distant portion of the system.

Extra receivers will only help make an undersize compressor keepup if the air use average is not greater than its rated flow. And the extra flow requirement is of short duration.

What is the size of your receiver now.

What is your peak air flow demand.

What is the problem that you are having with your system that has brought up this discussion.

If you are having a problem with low delivery volume etc it may help, Measure your Leakage rate first. Measure the cut-in period of the compressor with all pneumatic equipment out of use VL = Vk x t / T

VL = Volume of leak in m3/min

Vk = Volume flow of compressor in m3/min

t = sum of time units the compressor is on load

T= total time of test

FIX ANY LEAKS

The compressor should be on load for around 80% of the total running time if it is above 90% then adding more receivers will not do much good as you are reaching the limit of the compressor you have, If it is less then adding receivers may save you money due to lower load times for the compressor

I was having a problem here with air volume delivery. What we had to do to correct the issue was to increase the size of the piping from 3/4" to 2". It seems when the original system was installed they were only running a 10hp compressor. The compressor was changed out for a new larger compressor to handle the additional load of new equipment.

The new compressor helped but everyone was always telling me when I started working here that air was a problem. I guess is doesn't matter how big you make the compressor, if the lines are to restrictive you just wont get the volume. We are now running a 50hp screw compressor running through 2" lines and it runs great.
