Problem in Mcafee Antivirus

11/17/2008 12:43 PM

Dear Friends

I have a Desktop PC in my home 933Mhz, 20GB HD and 128Mb Ram. First there was windows XP 2003 edition installed. I have recently updated the windows with 2006 edition. I have also converted the file system of three partions from FAT32 to NTFS. After installtion, i re-installed Mcafee Antivirus version 2.3.0.2 and updated with latest definitions dat5432 and ask to system to scan but system generated an error that the virus defination file is corrupted. I tried to run previous virus definitioin file dat5231 but system again generated the same error. I re-installed the software but still same error occured while that antivirus worked perfectly with windows XP 2003 edition. can any expert help me out?

Is it a legitimate version of Windows, or a cracked copy?

I have to agree with you Bondy,

933MHz is fairly slow also 128 megs of ram is barely enough to run xp let alone McAfee is a memory hog from what I remember.

Signode:

When you updated the O/S did you uninstall the 2003 version first or just try to over write it?

Yes. Windows 2000 is a good choice ! It has been proven that it is very stable, and also works perfect on "limited" systems.

Good Luck !

I think the problem lies with MS service packs and that you will have better experience from XP than 2000 if you go to McAfee site and get up grade patch to the MS SP in use, it should be SP3.

I only have one suggestion : Do not install ANY software from after 2000 on this system. Even go for Windows 98 !

If you install software from later than 2000, you ALWAYS will end up in troubles.

Thanks . I used McAfee at one time, and found their support site (and user forums) to be very good. When I decided to change, it gave a few hiccups (as does Norton etc) in uninstalling but their tech folk were very helpful.

If Signode googles something like "McAfee <exact error phrase>", it will probably turn up a useful fix. It may be a security software conflict, I've seen update problems occur when other security stuff has conflicts. Creating exception lists can work in some cases.
