Tribology is in most of these dosuments confused with lubrication technology. However pure tribology is the study of friction regardless of the interface between the 2 rubbing partners.

One of the most perfect tribometers for simulation and study of tribological conditions is the SRV made by Optimol. That equipment is prepared for the tribological study of metals, material, and surface enhancing systems such as coatings. www.srvtest.com www.optimol-instruments.de

Good luck in your research.

I remember several years back that MIT had a video course on this subject taught by Ernest Rabinowitz (one of the world's experts). I took the course and found it quite helpful. I just googled MIT OpenCourseware videos Tribology. I dont know what the costs are these days.
