Hello Wkast

The best Steel database is: http://steel.keytometals.com/?

You may download a trial version and/or Register to their Forum.

See if that helps you.

Kind Regards....

This is the AFNOR classification for for steels, in the case, low alloyed steel, in which alloying elements are below 5%.

The first number is the 100xpercent of carbon content.

The following letters are there for a code on the most significant alloy elements in decreasing order.

C is for Cr

D is for Mo

12 is a factor for the chrome percentual multiplied by 4.

At the end, as stated, we have 0,2%C, 3%Cr, with Mo addition. Something similar to a "4120" but with increased Cr content.

By the way, are you sure its not 20CD1-2? In this case we´d have 0,25% Cr and 0,2%Mo, which is much more usual. But please note that your original spec is possible (although sounds strange...)

Quite complicated... Standards, who understands them?

Hello Wkast:

A poster gave you some information on your steel spec. You make have known this already.

The steel is French Canadian. Based in Quebec run by the Lacier Family, (It seems).

I have researched the name Acier Leroux, Acier Loubier. As far as I can make out these two people run or owned the Metal Factory where your steel was probably made originally…………….Bear with me please…………..Russel Metals, sells and stores metal from and for the US, Canada, and has a link with Lacier.

I think it would be worth your while getting the metal Catalogue from Russel Metals, and you could well find your spec in there. And from it can match it with metal from the Quebec site in Canada.

Go to this site and it with show you where your steel was made. It shows Tubular.

Steel.

Metal service centres etc.

Good luck.
