Yes, Diesel has a chemical reaction with galvanized steel. Never use Galvanized steel with any diesel/biodiesel/petrol.

Interesting!

We have an supplier wich delivers us galvanised 1000Liter Diesel storage tanks and insured us nothing could happen.

In the Dutch Dragon machinery which we build in the Netherlands stainless steel tanks are used, as John Deere has advised us to either plastics, Stainless steel, Steel with a proper coating or aluminum.

What could happen with the fuel in the galvanised tank and where can I find more information.

Thanks!

Do not store diesel fuel in galvanized containers because the fuel may dissolve the zinc coating, which can then remain in solution until deposited in the pump or injectors. It is the sulfer in the fuel which attacks the Zinc in the galvanized steel. I would suspect the tank supplier which uses galvanized tanks must put some kind of coating on the inside of the tank such as aluminum. The galvanization is most likely used primarily for the outside of the tank, to protect against environemtal conditions.

Agreed Never use Galv pipe for fuel us black steel for above ground pipework. underground should always be dual wall Durapipe which is available world wide. Just google durapipe.
