Save Your Factory

05/23/2005 12:08 PM

Save Your Factory is a group trying to show how automating your factory can be more cost effective then outsourcing or factory closures in North America. (Of course the company leading this effort is a factory automation firm.) It is interesting that they place legal issues as the biggest reason not to go overseas. Copyright infringement, patent infringement and the worthlessness of some contracts lead these legal woes.

In-Sourcing

So now you can replace all of your employees with machinery? Do we call this not so new strategy "in-sourcing"? I disagree with the web site's assertion that North American consumers demand quality. At least in the U.S., what consumers demand is low cost goods. After all, we have the landfills to prove it.

Either way the message to factor workers is clear, you are replaceable. Between outsourcing and automation, the North American factory worker sounds like it might be the next endangered species.
