Avocado Oil Production

12/03/2008 8:15 AM

Hello all,

We are looking into starting an Avocado oil manufacturing facility.

I need information on

  1. Equipment, in both centrifuge and pressure
  2. More information about applications we might not know about.
  3. We are willing to pay for consulting.

Wangito.

Hello WangIto,

I can not help you if I do not where the oil is within the Avocado. I have been eating the fruits all my life and never given a thought to it about being a source of oil. Yet, once I have some ideas where the oil is within the fruit then I should gladly contribute, and even vie for the consulting position. What do you think?

Hi,

as Avocado-oil is one of the best (besides Olive and Sesame) oils you can have for any use in human food,

it is very likely that only a few other applications, especially in cosmetics can compete.

Bottling and quality of bottles likely the same as for olive oil.

Separation from "stone" in fruit and centrifugung: there is a German producer with vast experience in any type of separation of mixtures, I have to dig my papers to find.

Any operation will be much better if done below inert gas: preserving quality.

How much per day do you think for a first step?

Strange question to say the least...

You are asking how much do I pay before telling me what do you sell?

I think the question is "what is the projected initial daily production volume?" Perhaps that information would be used as guide in recommending machinery and vessels for the operations as per your request.

No, noo, no,

getting things done would need an estimate how many Kg/day you want to process.

Technology is very much dependent on this.

UUUUPS,

Sorry misunderstood you sir...

We are thinking to start a pilot at 2-5 tons per day which we will be supermarkets left over and expired fruit. increasing it to whatever we could. we want to build a modular system for future expantion.

I used to use avocado oil to keep my guacamole from squeaking but have lost my source. Once you get in production, let me know. I hate squeaky guacamole...

We produce Olivado avocado oil, which is by far the healthiest, most versitile cooking and salad oil available.

For direct delivery to your house, at the same price you would pay in the supermarket, click on this link: www.olivado.com/usa/products.htm.

Hello Guest,

I want to start a manufacturing facility. We have the necessary fruit surplus.

Any way you would like to co-operate?

Thanks,

Very interesting, problem is that this system is meant for oil extraction from rape seeds, and not soft pulp. I don't think it will do it for us. but appreciate the lead anyhow.

Re: Avocado Oil Production

Here is my suggestion for the process design:

  • Machine to auto-peel off the "skin";
  • Cold Plastic Extruder or Industrial Pulverizer to grind the soft fruits into a pulp,
  • Continuous Flow Stirred Tank slowly agitated for stirring the pulp-water mix to allow the oil to float to the top and be decanted beyond a certain height;
  • Centrifuge/Cyclone Separator for high performance extraction of the remnant oil from the bottom discharge of the CFS Tank;
  • Separator Vessel for final separation of the oil from the oil-waterextracts from the CFST and Centrifuge/Cyclone Separator.

I hope that this is helpful, in making initial searches for equipment. Goodluck

Clear up a misunderstanding for me please. You are wanting to press the fruit or the seed for oil extraction?

Actually I prefer the concept using a ram rather than the screw type. Or a roller type could be useful when pressing oil from a slurry.

Then again the general system set-up is not press type specific.

I didn't know the seed has any oil in it. As a matter of fact I don't think it has. and I was wondering what can be done with the seeds.

Re: Avocado Oil Production

Hi wangito,

I estimate that the avocado seed contains some oil - may be totally different from the fruit, and certainly carbohydrates and proteins, and some poisons that shall repel animals and ...

(Avocado flesh and seed is poisonous to animals!)

Some uses are intended from seed extracts in cosmetics and pharmaceutics,

especially D-mannoheptulose for immune-system-modulation.

So if you want to use the seeds for feeding there is the need to identify and extract or ferment the toxic ingredients.

Re: Avocado Oil Production

We discarded the use for animal feeding for the reasons you mentioned. The oil content is insignificant, and we didn't find anyone who might be interested in it anyhow.

But we thought of using it in conjunction with wood and paper pulp to produce pellets for wood burning furnaces. some R+D must be done first.

Which equipment would you use for the oil extraction?

Wangito.

Hi Wangito,

here you can find the composition of the avocado seed-oil compared to other vegetable oils.

More informations on machines for oil extraction likely available end of this week.

Hi Wangito,

here is the composition of the seed.

Your intended use as fuel pellets is one good possibility.

But may be you can make more of it.
