The adhesive that holds the metal tab to the windshield of a car which the rear view mirror is attached.

Unibond "No More Nails Permanent Strips" sticky pads do this very well.

If instead of stainless steel you use Invar or Kovar Nickel/Iron alloys or even Inconel X-750 (controlled expansion alloys), and you use a borosilicate glass (low expansion glass), you can cast the glass around the part and get a glass to metal seal like that used for vacuum tubes and such.

still need more information. how much pressure? for how long? what is the chemistry of the surroundings? Is this a "wetted" part that must be biocompatible?

This is very dependant on the joint design and application.

There are many compounds that could act as an adhesive or weld type material. I'm sure many of these would be within the medical requirements.

There is the possibility of a mechanical joint as well. Does it have to simply not leak or hold pressure?

Completely capturing the glass or steel portion in a elastomeric seal of some type is again dependant on design.

If you could supply more detail it would help.
