Car Stereo

12/08/2008 12:03 AM

My Volvo 960 car stereo all lights up ok, casette turne around and radio tunes in ok.

When I turn the ignition on, the sound comes out for between 10 and 15 seconds then shuts down. I took to electrician and he reckons there is no power getting to the amplifier. He changed the power ic and still not working. Now he has lost interest. My original Power IC was TB 8221 L The nearest we could find was TB 8221 AH

The stereo is original volvo and suits the car so i prefer to keep it. Any ideas what to do.

Try to check 5v regulator ( power supply for digital circuit ) inside your car stereo.

I guess you could rewire your stereo, so that it isn't dependent on the ignition to work. If you hook it directly to the battery. You would have to turn it on/off manually though...

Looking at the number of blogs you have for problems with the same car, you seem not to have done a very good checkout before buying!!! Take it back.

Hopefully you got it really really cheap!!!

If it were mine, I would check the terminals at the connectors for the radio, and amplifier, if it is separate from the radio. If the voltages are not correct, repair. If there is the correct voltage (11 to 14 volts) at each of the wires that feed power to the radio, I would suggest a used radio from a auto salvage yard. Buy with a warranty. With the flood of aftermarket radios being sold, the market for used factory radios has fallen flat. Good luck.

hi,

i am mayank, i think u r troubleshooting this problem due to electrical noise getting added, please dont worry it is a general problem.

i make it clear to u, that ur stereo has an amplifier & radio signal receiver ckt that receives the signal which get added with thermal noise generated due to ignition as sparking takes place.

it has two general solutions,

one is easier & in ur hand that make the stereo off while starting ur vehicle.

and second one is check ur stereo earth terminal it is not in proper order make it clean & proper connected.

dont make any element get replaced their is not any defect in internal circuitry, it is all due to that reasons.

i wish this can solve ur problem

good bye.
