Failure to detect USB hard drive - 200GB.

Dear all, I have problem with my USB external hard drive, size-200GB. 30 GB of fiIes stored in this drive. when I tried to rename some of its PDF file name, after some time cannot showing the disc on my computer. some abnormal sound is comming from the external USB hard drive. At present my computer is not detect this USB Drive. I test with another external drive, that was working normal with the same computer. Can any body help me to solve this problem?

Try rebooting the computer with the external drive disconnected. Reconnect and see if it is recognized. Are you connecting directly or through a usb hub?

Try several different computers. I don't know why this should be but sometimes....
