That is a beautifully researched and well written paper. One important factor, however, may have been overlooked. When designing vertical pressure vessels for use in arctic conditions, one must factor in the affects of ice coating on the surfaces of the vessel. This is a very important and often overlooked parameter.

In the following handbook, there is a brief calculation for period of vibration T (actual and allowable) for vertical pressure vessels where the natural frequency f = 1/T, and the actual vibration shall not exceed the allowable vibration, and the handbook derives the both formulas/equations:

Part 1 "Design and Construction of Pressure Vessel"

• Design of Tall Towers, Vibration (page 60).

• Seismic Load, Earthquake (pages 61, 62 & 63).

Hello paresh_career001:

I hope these will help. Perhaps you can check some sites against others to check any assumptions and astimates you make.

a) Analysis Technique:

Le = Effective Length of stack=

304

ft

92536

mm
Dr = Average internal dia. of top half of stack=

16.75

ft
T = Period of vibration (As per Esco)=1.648 (Le^2) / Dr E0.5
T = Period of vibration (As per Esco)=

1.7534

sec
f = 1 / T = Natural frequency of stack vibration=

0.5703

cps
T = Period of vibration (C.E.FREEZE))=

2.16

sec
f = 1 / T = Natural frequency of stack vibration=

0.4624

cps
T = Period of vibration (As per Megessy)

2.17

sec
f = 1 / T = Natural frequency of stack vibration=

0.4618

cps
Ta = Maximum allowable period of vibration (As per Megessy)

6.00

sec
Actual allowable does not exceed the allowable vibration
