Are you an very experienced high voltage Electrician? If the answer is no, then leave well alone, these units are the simplest way to find out if there really is something there after we shed this mortal coil!!!

Buying such a unit costs less that the component parts will cost you, also good units have a battery state warning circuit as well......having a properly made transformer will really cost you, as using a "backwards" mains transformer will reduce the efficiency.....

1500 watts means that assuming at best 70% efficiency means that you will need around 1950 watts from the battery, which means that you will be drawing over 160 amps at 12 volts from it, depending upon its capacity, you may get 10 minutes of useful power!!!

Then if you are using a car battery, it will be deeply discharged, do that once or twice and the battery will be useless as you need a leisure battery to handle that well, much more expensive.....

Assume for a moment that you buy a leisure battery of 200 amp/hours capacity (very expensive battery!), you will get about 80 minutes of mains voltage before the battery needs recharging!!!!

Depending upon what you want to run from this device, do remember that many do not have a true sine wave output as it costs too much in efficiency, so computers and the like go completely crazy on the pseudo sine waves that most units have......

There are electronic things to make that are really worth it and a lot less dangerous and problematic!!! I am a fairly experienced electronics person (53 years of experience!) and I would not touch one of these as there are simply no plus points for me (or you!).....

Mr Basant,

The capacity of battery is the most important aspect for the load your will feed. there is IEEE standard for Ni-Cd and Pd-acid cell capacity selection. Go through it. As regard the inverter circuit you better leave it on to manufacturer who are having years of experience and developed the technology for our use. In other way you have to give load detail its working duration to manufacturer, they will suggest you the best choice.

Since you are saying to take this as your hoby go through some electronic model hand book (Markus, so far I remember) where from you can start.

As an hobbyist if you want to try check this link. http://web.telia.com/~u85920178/power/invert1_00.htm be warned when you are dealing with Voltage or Current remember Battery with 12 Volt can give high current discharge (Fatal) and High voltage DC can be very dangerous. Normally people think DC is safe to handle. DC Voltages are more dangerous than AC voltage. Despite my 34 years experience, when I needed a power back up for my home I called a professional manufacturer (My friend) to supply a 1 KVA Inverter.
