Steel Shear Strength and Pull-Out Load

12/16/2008 7:23 AM

I need to find out shear strength & pull out load on a 12mm dia , 200mm long Anchor bolt. I have taken the steel shear strength as 90 N/sq.mm.

Do you know the type/manufacturer of the anchor?

Or is it a "custom" J-bolt?

For example if you know it is a Hilti Kwik-bolt you may the info here:

http://www.us.hilti.com/data/techlib/docs/Product_Technical_Guide/Anchoring_Systems/4.3.4_KB-TZ_Expansion_Anchor(316-327).pdf

or any other Hilti anchor:

You can use the Shear Strength to be equal to 45% of the Allowable Tensile Strength of the bolt material.

Allowable Pull Out loads depend on the anchoring system typically more than the bolts. You should look up the manufacturers recommendations.

.....and on the concrete strength, depth of embedment and other details. 200mm is probably overall length, not embedment depth. Is it cast in (J-type or similar) or drilled hole? If drilled hole is it expansion or chemical type?
