Dead Pirates and Secret Shipments

12/17/2008 12:53 AM

Well, it's been confirmed by the head guy at the US Coast Guard that a group of Somalian pirates that hijacked a freighter from China, bound for Iran are dropping like flies!!!

The freighter is registered to a company that specializes in chemicals of war, and is on the "no body do any business with these guys" list.

Unfortunately for this particular band of pirates, when they examined the cargo for goodies, they ran into something very nasty and as yet unknown! There were initial deaths reported with more expected. The symptoms seem to be those of radiation poisoning, however, there are a number of lethal chemicals that can give the same symptoms.

Will this make the Somalian pirates a little more selective? Who knows. What do you think?

Can you cite any references? What is the "no body do any business with these guys list"?

Serves em right! Unfortunately, who's keeping tabs on the ship and its contents?

Oooooh, my military CBR (chemical, biological, and radiological) training was so long ago.

Based on what I do remember, it's most likely a blistering or blood agent. Nerve agents usually cause convulsions, then death, and they usually act quickly. Some blistering or blood agents can have effects that last for years.

The article mnetions skin burns, lost hair and falling gravely ill within days of exposure. I wonder what other specific symptoms they had.

I'd also like to know more about the containers; specifically, what kind of containers, were they warm to the touch, did they show signs of corrosion, etc.

Pirates of the somalian! coming to a theatre near you!

Back to Davy Jones Locker!

But seriously do you think they will? How well educated are they, can they even read? do they know the meaning of the warning sings on the containers?

One captain that was captured by a band of pirates said that the lead guy told him in perfect English, "Do as you're told and you'll live. Disobey and you'll die."

I'm sure this is an exception, but there are at least a few pirates out there capable of understanding what they have.

Yeah, they've done us a favor, haven't they? The US should pay the ransom so they can examine the ship themselves. That and some medical treatment for the pirates should clench the deal.

In this case it appears they would find labels in Chinese and/or Farsi, if openly labeled at all.

Tough bein' a pirate; It's a cutthroat business. ;'(

Ø

They were a bit luckier with a shipment of agricultural fertilizer from our competitors Potash mine! The Pirates hijacked a ship loaded with BPC potash for Sri Lanka off the coast of Somalia. Going rates up to $1000/ton. Just more evidence that potash is as good as gold, aaaarrgg!

Do the pirates have a good legal case against the owners of the vessel? They could file suit and collect more from pain and suffering damages than from a ransom.

What ever happened to the good ol' days when a pirate could just seize a vessel and plunder it for all it's treasure and bury the treasure somewhere so somebody could go look for it 300 years later?

There you are! We can send ship of hazardous waste near Somalia, have them hijacked and they can bury the waste there. Brilliant!

You don't think George hasn't already thought of that! Also, a squadron of fairies to help with the unloading!
