Damage the gland and produce leakage. Replace with a higher temperature.

It depends on the termperature variation and the type of machine, the most severe reaction that I am aware of happened to a reheat machine operating with an inlet of 1000 F and reheat of 1050 F. At the initial startup of the machine, the machine vibrated so severely that the startup engineer left the turbine deck. It was found that the steam seals had been piped to a very low temperature source.

So what happened to you?
