I never heard N reacts with grease or hydrocarbons. I think this may be an obligation if the equipment you serve with N should be kept free from contamination. Not for the gas itself.

Hi Smkajith

No, you only need to have your valve free from oil/grease if it is to be used with a gas (under high pressure) that supports combustion, such as Oxygen. Nitrogen is inert so, you should be good to go!

Have a good break!

Certainly it would be required for cryogenic service or for pure or ultra pure service at room temperature service. Refer to the customer specification for guidance if there is one. Otherwise standard cleaning should suffice.

Yes for UP service sometimes. Depends on the method of degreasing. If filtration and purification is in place (as it should be) an IPA wipe should suffice. The de-greasing itself can be harmful (trace contaminants).

Oxygen and even tiny traces of grease or combustible material can cause spontaneous rapid oxidation that the ancient people called BOOM.

Nitrogen lacks the explosive personality and the valves for nitrogen need not be degreased. However if your nitrogen will be an inert blanket above the peanut butter in the jar or replaces ambient air in the apple ware house I hope the nitrogen, the valve and all plumbing are very clean, even sterile.

Nitogen used as medical gas may need degreased valves to prevent fouling of down stream filters.
