The stock exchange is an independent organization in a capitalist economy with many duties.

One of their duties is to raise capital for new or extending development.

The public then can invest in a company by buying shares (stock)

It is rather like owing a portion of the food stall. and every time somebody buys a product a small portion of the profit will end up in your pocket. Sort of having your savings money working for you.

There is always a risk when you invest money. The business could be mismanaged or struck by some or other disaster. usually the profit however increases with risk.

How to invest? Public cannot go to the exchange and buy or sell stocks (It is almost a madhouse in there in any case) any must deal through a stock broker.

The alternative is to invest in unit trusts, These lot have a wide range of shares and each investor then only owns a portion of that. In this method the risk is lower but the gains are also smaller. What you get there is usually a small steady growth.

It is the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) in Wall street on Manhattan island, New York , USA.

It is not a place of much interest to the ordinary citizen. Most people are not curious enough to even care.

Unfortunately I am curios and have wasted some time at the JSE (Hollard street at that stage). It is like a beehive in there. most of them do not seem to achieve anything but yet they come back day after day and do (or don't do) whatever they try to do.

Then there were indecisive men writing figures on a black board, Just to change it from time to time whenever he feels like it. It would have been better if he wrote it down and went for a beer.
