Right click on my mouse pad on my laptop died completely after a similar malfunction. My solution was to buy an external mouse and abandon the mousepad. It seems to be the internal switches in the mousepad have worn out, and I haven't tried disassembling the unit to see if they are repairable, since the external mouse solved the problem.
I will check on this but, from my experience you need to 'let the mouse know you are there' by left clicking before you start doing anything. I do not have a laptop but do have a touch sensitive mouse on my keyboard.
Do you right click by tapping it twice or not?
How old is your laptop? And, have you ever spilled anything on it?
Let me know and I will see what I can find.

Can you please tell me the make and model # of your computer. You are talking about a laptop? Not the Keyboard type sensitive touch thingy?

Hello Haajee,
I have looked into it a little and it may be worth trying a couple of things before you give up..........
1) go to your 'pointing device' properties, and see if you can reset anything.
2) go to the driver site below as you may need a new driver/s.
3) .......Ummm, still waiting for the make and model etc.

Are you having problems trying to get your touchpad to work properly? Maybe you are experiencing intermittent tracking, incorrect tracking or even no tracking at all?

Why Should I Update My Touchpad Drivers?
Many people don't realize that having stable and up-to-date drivers is one of the most important ways to keep your computing experience trouble-free. Microsoft regularly (and silently) updates your Windows to fix security and stability issues. Unfortunately, these updates don't include drivers and can actually even break your existing drivers, which are written by your device manufacturer. For these reasons your device manufacturer puts out frequent updates to provide the best user experience. When given choice always choose WHQL Certified drivers as they are certified by Microsoft. Drivers and firmware are just software programs that keep your hardware working - having old or corrupt drivers can lead to all sorts of problems, from blue screen crashes to random or constant rebooting.
Good luck and get back to me with the answers please.
Have a great new year!
