They are not equivalent units.

1 kip (Kilo-pound) = 1000 pounds = a force

1 Nm [n-m] (newton-meter) = 0.737 lb-ft = a torque

You need to have a distance that your force of 1 kip acts upon to get a torque.

how much N-M(torque) to be applied by AISC using ASTM 325 or A490 bolts.
