Why are you trying to use the printer port. My Sony 22" LCD HDTV has a SVGA input that plugs directly into my laptop. I don't know about other brands but it seems a simple solution to me.

The solution given above is good, why try and invent somthing using a printer port that would be far too slow anyway, even if your printer port is actually a USB port......and not a true, old fashioned printer port! USB would also be far too slow even at 2.0.....think of the amounts of data that need to be sent across...

All laptops built over the last 10 years or more have an extra SVGA connection for a screen or projector, just use that, its so simple - no designing to do either, just plug and play. Some laptops have a DVI connector either as well or instead of the normal SVGA, make sure that you know what you have first before buying a screen!

Hi thank u,

got your point.... I'll tell exactly as to what i wish to do....I wish that my big LCD screen should be like a glass wall partially transparent showing you the other side....I should be like a sheet.

Hope u got it...here there are no provisions for drawing diagrams else i would illustrate..the size should be atleast be of A3 size paper...

Ur Laptop idea was great...Thank you once again

Something I just thought of. Back in the early 90s several manufacturers produced LCD units that you could place on an overhead projector to display on a screen and were about the size of a sheet of A4 paper. They could accept just about any type of input including SVGA and Video and usually come with just about every type of connector cable you could imagine. Back then these screens were worth about $15,0000 but with the introduction of cheap projectors they went out of style. I recently saw one in Australia for AU$40 (US$30). They don't come up very often but its worth looking into, search for things like "LCD panel" or "LCD & overhead projector".

having tinkered with electronics quite a bit, it seems to me like he may be asking about how to make his own interface for an LCD panel...this being his project. You won't get a very good grade in school by just plopping something off-the-shelf onto the table and claiming "it wasn't necessary to reinvent the wheel". Unfortunately my whole educational experience wasn't that practical...reinventing the wheel was the whole point so we could see how we arrived where we are now.

In answer to the question: You'd have to find a specific LCD panel with the controller for it and then, using the datasheets, communicate with the LCD controller using whatever digital interface it requires.

Hollographic screens exist and they are very large too.

I believe what he's trying to do is to have a transparent window that can turn into a monitor. When it's not in use, it's like a normal window and when he switches it on, it turns into a computer monitor albeit in black and white.

It's certainly interesting and I think the technology is available. I saw a desk clock on sale that worked that way. It was transparent but you could also see the time.

I can't provide you with information on a manufacturer but the internet should be able to give you a list of possibilities. If this is a project, however, it seems like it's going to be expensive!

Commercial viability? If it's in color, I think you'd have a good product. In black and white, I don't know.

Good luck!
