And in the case of voltage drop for conductors, R is the DC resistance or AC impedance of the conductor, usually stated in ohms per 1000 feet or some such term. I (current) is that which the load requires, and V is the applied voltage (usually deemed to be constant).
P. S. John, I'm certainly not disputing what you said, nor am I correcting anything. However, anyone who asks how to calculate voltage drop probably can't understand Ohm's Law well enough to figure out what to do with it.

Thanks for the generalisation - I just stated the DC form in the hopes that Twat Guest would either come back and explain their problem, or just go away happy with a little bit more knowledge.

You were right as far as the question went. But if somebody asks a question like this then i don't like giving such a simple answer, Not worth the time spent in opening the mail and reading.
Love making things more complicated when people ask the 10th std questions In fact I was thinking of the transforms but forgot the equations that had done during my post grads or should have started with the
First find the periodic distribution of the input signal
With fourier transform into sinsusoids upto minimum 7th degree.
For each calculate the
a) Leakage fluxes - conductor
b) Flux linkage of conductor with itself, and other conducting media
c) calculate the Self and Mutual inductance and thus the total inductance
d) skin depth
e) calculate the resistivity of the material of conductor and diameter (accurately to the rquired degree)
f) calculate the resistance of the conductor
f) similarly calculate the capacitance
g) ...
x) repeat the procedure for all the frequencies
z) Check up the resonance if there for any of the above frequencies ie ωL=1/ωC
...
(But with the nice simple one line question didn't dare to go that much and already people are quite unhappy about our being sarcastic)
So I asssumed the OP is much superior to us and thus just wanted to give him a food for thought.
At least now I have given
