You might need to upgrade the Vista to the Pro version, or go back to XP Pro. I know you must have XP Pro for RS Logix for Allen Bradley PLCs. It will not run on the Home edition of XP.

Does it claim to be Vista compatible, if not, throw Vista out and by WinXP Pro.

Even if it does claim to be Vista compatible, that could be a big fat lie!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Later:-

I had a quick look at the web site, they only mention Win2K and WinXP for a piece of software that MIGHT be what you are talking about....I did not waste a lot of time looking around I do admit. Probably more than you did though?

Seriously, my personal recomendation is NOT to use Vista for anything serious other than going online or writing letters.....thats its limit for me......and many others!

I'm curious as to what "Real user software" is able to run happily on Vista, not talking about games and the like

I feel Vista is the upgrade of Win-ME, about as troublesome.

Hi all,

You will have problems with Step7 and vista as Step 7 needs to have full administrator rights. I am not familiar with Vista so I cannot tell you how to do this. Just make sure that you have full access rights to the machine and all the software, drives, process' running on it.

Also one other thing - never ever install Siemens software if your are logged into a Domain. Rather log onto the machine itself with full administrator rights and then install your software. The same applies to when you want to remove the software. In my experience though - rather do a commplete format when you want to remove the software as it will be quicker than following the tedious process that Siemens provides.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Craig
