Loops and Flat Cables

01/20/2009 2:32 AM

Dear respective engineers,

I am handling a little project to change a crane power cable which uses round cable to flat cable type.

and now i am wondering what is the best number of loop needed (20 mtrs rail) and the length of each loops. I do remember last time when i was still working with previous company, that DEMAG crane manual did mentioned about those subject.

Too long will increase the risk of the cable to get twisted and break the wire internally or stuck with another object. and too short will cause too many hook use.

Your idea and guidance is much appreciated

I feel that 20 loops will be o.k as loop height will be 0.5 m and it should not interfere with your other equipment under the crane. You may need different cable carriers as carriers for round cables may not suit flat cable.
