Motor & motor skid grounding

01/28/2009 2:44 AM

hi,

i have confusion how to ground motor and motor skid followinf are the situation

1)motor body is directly grounded form ground grid conductor

2)there is a insulated vibrating pad installed between motor and skid

my question 1)do we need separate grounding connection from main ground grid or we can jumper skid from motor ground point which is already connected to maing ground grid kindly reply me based on NEC requirement

i have another problem

we have ground grid cable run all over plant, motor body is connected through ground grid cable.

As per above condition do we need separate ground conductor from source for motor protection, kindly reply based on nec.

thanks,

Supplementary earth bonding is usually carried out strictly according to the wiring codes prevailing in the country of installation.

It would be rather unwise, in principle, for the earth bonding conductor to have a lower cross-sectional-area than each phase conductor!

1) you can jumper the skid as long as "connected together and to the electrical supply source in a manner that establishes an effective ground-fault path"

2) yes you need an equipment ground conductor from source overcurrent protection device to motor
