If the vessel is steel you have a designated "Ground point" and all your earthing cables are brought to this one point. The metal structure is immersed in a wet and conductive environment and thus naturally "earthed" However in order to eliminate ground loops and damaging stray curent corosion it is essential to have one single earthing point. Another description of the earthing system is a "star" pattern with all earthing wires collected at one point.

We discussed this at length in a previous thread. You should do a search on this site, but here is the US Navy DOD link I provided that more than answers your question at length.

Hello CJMcGill, How do you search for a specific thread on this website if you do not know the thread name. I have tried in the past and never ben able to find any of the threads some poster or other says has already thrashed out the subject.

I'm obviously dumb since I haven't yet figured this out on my own. Your assistance would be appreciated.

Just for giggles I typed " ship earthing" in the 'search all CR4 box to the right and got 5+ pages of links to CR4 discussion threads related. Seems simple to me. Is that method not working for you guys?

Probably would have been a lot more pages if 'grounding' or 'earthing' were typed in with no other qualifier.

Hmmm? on my screen it says Part Finder. Kept getting No results! Probably something to do with my impaired vision. Peripheral vision isn't what it should be.

I tend to miss a lot of details on a busy screen.

I'll keep hunting. It must be there somewhere in the fine print or outside the border. To see I tend to zoom in on center screen. The edges get cut off.

Part Finder is at the bottom of the right hand column on my screen. Above that is a list of all the forums available, and above that is the 'ask a question' or 'search this forum' or 'search all of CR4.'

It is possible that my page has a different layout, but to the right of the page is a column with options to ask a question, start a discussion, search the forum I'm on, or search all of CR4. Below that is a list of the available forums titled 'CR4 Sections', a 'site Indices' list and last is my log-in information.

Also when I go to a forum topic list I can click on 'see all threads' above the list and get pages and pages of previous threads going back I presume to the beginning of time.

Is this how your page is presented?

I am using a Linux machine and the web page is not exactly the same. The text editor in Linux version is limited and has an annoying remnant implanted in the middle of the editing window. The editing tool bar is also lost.

However the biggest problem is my own vision impairment.

It causes me to not see things on the perimeter of a screen. And to see properly I enlarge the view by zooming in on the center of the screen thus pushing whatever is on the sides of a screen, out of sight.

Its probably not an issue for younger people with normal sight.

Perhaps you could download the Linux version of Mozilla Firefox. The safety and features are excellent in my experience so far. Also I invested in a 22" wide screen for the very reasons you have espoused.

I am already using Mozilla Firefox. It came with the Linux Distro. I do not hve enough money to buy another 22" monitor. I did have one but it developed a power supply problem and I could not afford to replace it. I found a smaller ( still working) 15" monitor at the dump which I am now using. I lost my computers to a malware attack. It put me out of business for two months and I am still trying to recover from the loss of income.

It is difficult to conceive an earth electrode that is better than a metallic structure immersed in an ocean of seawater....
