FLUID MECHANICS

02/01/2009 1:35 PM

I HAVE A DOUBT ABOUT FLUID MECHANICS IS THERE ANY POSSIBILITIES WHEN ALTITUDE/HUMIDITY INCREASE / DECREASE IT AFFECT THE FLOW (WATER)(PRESSURE/DISCHARGE) HOW IT VARY DUE TO WHAT? PLS CLARIFY MY DOUBT IF THESE THING AFFECT PRACTICALLY HOW TO CHECK&RECTIFY THESE PROBLEMS.

NORMALLY FOR EXAMPLE TO ATTAIN 1 BAR PRESSURE WATER IN GRAVITY FLOW HOW MUCH WE HAVE TO RAISE FROM EARTH LEVEL. IS THERE ANY CALCULATION FOR THE PRESSURE/ DISCHARGE PLS CLARIFY MY DOUBT.

Altitude would affect fluid properties and pressures such as specic weight etc. I don't recall humidity having any influence in flow...especially with liquids, gases..maybe.

Singh,

The only way low atmospheric pressure will noticeably affect flow is when using a pump. Review the equation of the NPSH (Net Positive Suction Head) and you will find a term that contains the atmospheric pressure. At high altitude the vapor pressure diminishes and the pump can "starve" going into cavitation.

I do not think that open channel flow is influenced by low atmospheric pressure.
