The stock wire size may vary. Verify the original size prior to hardening.

How about residual stress from forming. Take a few and anneal them then harden and see if there is a difference. They may react to the annealing the same way.

You may need to have your feed stock annealed on a mandrel before forming and make sure the stock is fed the same for all the rings so the stresses of forming are the same. I just blacksmith a little so I'm only guessing.

This is called Distortion or Deformation ( change in dimensions ). The main cause is the structural transformation in the 500 to 650 Deg. C range & below 300 Deg.C, causing DISTORTION.

The defect is mostly irrepairable. In order to prevent it, hardening temperature & cooling rates should be lowered.

Holding in the furnace should be as short as possible.Small springs should be placed onto a heated pan. You may also try using mill annealed wires. If possible. take the help of a good metallurgist to solve the problem permanently to improve ur products.
