Newest Posts List Missing?

Hi

Make sure that you are logged in... the link from the email telling you about new comments might put you in a browser where you are not logged in, and this would cause the "new comments" stuff to be hidden. (Since you are logged in now you should be able to see that stuff for every discussion you are subscribed to.)

As for ordering the comment differently, you can change the sort order by clicking on the "Comments" button/link/thingy above and to the right of the main post. One of the sort options is chronological.

Well, so far this did not happen....... Usualy when I click hyperlink, I went to thread in question and could see all new posts. Why to hide them at all? But this list is formed specially for me, isnt it? Anyhow, this time there is list, so perhaps it would be fine now..

At least you get someething. About three months ago, the responses just stopped coming back. I've checked my settings, my profile and my spam filters. Nothing there.

I'm stumped.

Have you told 'Mr helpful' our Chris Leonard in Admin about your problems? I get an email or post often withing the hour! If Admin know, they can check it out their end? And let you know or put a general notice on-line?

I also face a similar situation, that is non-receipt of CR4. Every day I open CR4 and read all. I did not receieve the 30th January 2009 CR4 THREAD.

I request CR4 members to forward a copy to my mail id sd610@rediffmail.com. I put mail to CR4 site also but no reply.

I understand now that we have to log-in and then only put comments or reply etc.

I also noticed that for some threads responses stopped coming in, and when I checked, really nobody for months has answered nor commented my post which is last, and in one case only one posted...........

But for threads I got notice about new posts, when I clicked hyperlink i was there and also logged in...... Now for instance I got notice about Your posts as new for this thread, and coming here I saw list of new posts, but then I wanted to reset them all and got message that I got to be logged on. I logged on and come back, but list of new posts disappeared........

It would also be logical to be able to come back to place where I was after log in confirmation, and not to use >>Back<< button three times at least.......

But, things on CR4 have become sort of tradition, so they dont want to change how things work. I have noticed that some people gave themself GA which should not be possible, specially if it is originall postar who is answering his own question......:-((

Most unusuall is that really it is not possible to send remarks or notices to CR4 team, like they dont want to be bothered........

But still, sometimes something is changing, usually for worse, and they should open forum about it first, collect all suggestions and post summary of chosen improvements, and then make it so..........

FYI, people cannot give themselves a "good answer" rating; the system will not allow it.

The way to send comments to CR4 Admins is described in the FAQ... just send an email to cr4admin@globalspec.com.

Now, I have seen thread where original poster has answered to himself and this was rated as GA, so I assumed man has rated his own post. On other thread I have seen GA given to off topic answers, and it appeared on list of good answers, even if it show that person has not understand originall post in first place, or was joking, and this surely cannot be GA, can it be? Anyhow, can someone pretend to be Guest and then rate his own post? How system differentiate one Guest from another? I have seen severall answers that were at best mediocre proclaimed to be GA, and some bad answers as well, so I dont really give importance to wether I would get GA or not.... Unfortunately some people are making jokes out of serious questions, but perhaps this is normall and should simply be ignored........

It is some a better way of explaining something by sending a message to yourself, if you perhaps forgot to mention something in a previous post, you see? But if that post gets a GA, it it because it was thought good enough to warrant one. I say again it is not possible to give yourself a GA. Try it and you will see.

Sometimes people cannot sign in or they forget or what they have to say is urgent so there is no time to sign in. If I for instance entered as a guest (without signing on) I may be able to give my post, as guest a GA. But, it will be the 'guest' who has the GA and it will not appear on my user name. So there would be little benefit, would there? Anyway, the morals of all the members I know would prevent them even thinking of doing such a thing!

We are on here because it is a great meeting place like minded people. I don't and I am sure no other member ever thinks about getting a GA, as we try to help someone. It can be a boost to know others think your reply is worthy of a GA. but it is not the REASON any member stays on this site. After all, you can only answer the questions which people post. And it may be that you know nothing or not enough to help for several days or weeks?

As for people making jokes..................I and other members and non members often work for hours running into days trying to help someone. When a joke is made, it lightens the air and can bring some extra focus. And, often times something said in jest with bring enlightenment and forge different avenues to another reply. So all jokes are not a bad thing.

I have to say you seem very critical of members motives. I suggest before any more remarks from you that you actually get your 'facts' correct before you start any accusations?

I also dont care much wether I get GA or not, even if getting it means someone has understood that I am willing and also able to help. Othervise this institution would not be there, isnt it?

So what is keeping any Guest to give anybody an GA? Since Guest is anonimous, what would preclude me as a >>Guest<< to give GA to myself as registered member Henrik14? Surely Guest could give GA to another Guest also, which I think I have seen even if it does not make sense because this GA is not cumulated on any account, right?

Also, If I understood purpose of GA institution, rate of GAs to number of posts for any member should rate expertise of this member.

Therefore some people would even joke and give themself GA for that, even for snide remarks they make in less than one line :-((

Well, You are right, I must be registered to be able to rate an answer, but there is still posibility of two jokers to give GA to one another without merit.......

I would try to login as Guest and see if this is protected also.........

There has to be logicall explanation for what I have seen, that irelevant answer or stupid joke get GA.......

It seems I cannot Login as Guest after all, so You are right, yet there still have to be explanation for my observations.

On the other hand, perhaps I am too subjective or lack some common knowledge to see connection of such irrelevant answer to theme of thread........

Surely GAs are instituted purposefully, and would be good thing if used properly, so I abhor any misuse of anything good by some people that want to spread anarchy and chaos........

The other important thing to remember about GA (or Off topic) ratings is that if you disagree with a rating then you should indicate that by voting (where you get a chance to disagree with the rating, and help push it back to a "regular" post).

I suspect that you are correct that some people give GA's to their friends when the post doesn't really merit it, and the best way to counter that is for the rest of us to be rational about it; the rating process is anonymous (and impersonal) for a reason.

Giving yourself a GA, (no matter how you do it), is like cheating at Solitaire.

I would say that institution of assignation of GA to really good answers has purpose of showing how good person is at helping to solve problems. Therefore ratio between total number of posts and received GA's would bring fame of kind :-)

Some people crave fame that much that they would falsify their GA's to look knownegleable, while they are not.

That is why I resent GA's given to generalized or not practicall/usable answers, and least of all for bad joking........

Maybe there should be also BA's (Bad Answers), to anihilate effects of such GA's cheating, and also perhaps to repell posts from people who collect certain amount of BA's (because of democratic opinion shown by other participants) as they are wasting space and time of CR4 members......

It would seem to me that 'the democratic opinion of anyone else who has read this ridiculous thread is, that they do not give a dam about your moans'. However, in this thread you mentioned that members were voting 'illegally', and friends were voting with each other to boost their GA count. It may have happened, I have not seen it happen.

I can only speak of the Engineering and software threads because that is where I mostly spend my time...............Remember, the people answering most questions are pretty much the same core 50 or so members. When they are answering and mostly agreeing, they make friendships. I have myself made several on-line friendships and discuss other issues in PM apart from the issues and requests we see on the open forum. It does not mean to say, as you inferred several times, that we slap each other on the back and vote to give GA's to each other as if it is a kind of special club. and I, for one know I have never voted for my friends, just because they are friends!..............I found your inference that the best friends were voting, somehow illegally for each other, was offensive.

Me and at least another two posters advised you to get in touch with Chris Leonard at Admin about any worries you have. You may have done so, I don't know. But you do not appear to have done so.

From your initial first two short posts, which mentioned you were not getting your daily updates or something, (I can't recall exactly what you wrote in to ask, sorry) but after those two posts, you went on to moan at the three people who were trying to help. And so, every post after the first two from you was 'off topic'.

I am not angry at you. I am angry at this thread, When I know you can be so helpful and in fact have 5 GA. I have nothing against you personally, I can't have because I hardly know you! But I have noticed you are a clever man? Man or woman? I do not know, and you have given some very good answers to people and got the 5 GA for it. In ranting like this, to people who are trying to help, instead of writing to Admin as advised, you made the three people helping you angry. You said in at least two posts that this site has become a kind of 'old mans club' and, so, things were in favour of any long established member for him or her to be voted a GA.........................The nature of this site is, that anyone at all from any country can have their say, member and non member. If what is said makes sense you go on and answer other questions and so 'prove' you have 'credible knowledge' and, so are trusted more and more in the replies you give. In 12 months time half the members on this site may not visit the site as often and other newer members and non members 'be come the core' who answer most questions. When a site changes from month to month like that you can't say, and believed for saying it is like a club. It is not.

The site was designed by people who included the admin and was, as I understand it, just like any other site. Then Global.inc, or whatever they are called offered to sponsor the people whom started the site originally. It is what happens on the web, they way it grows. Google started like this! They did not suddenly start one day with half a billion members.

Ask Admin about your queries. And believe me, Admin are looking for any kind of problem and stopping things happening all the time, as part of the smooth running of the site. Give them a call or write to them. If you want copy this whole thread and send it to them and they will then know your worries without you having to repeat them. Just try in.

The thing I do not understand is why you are moaning anyway? Do you think the members are ignoring you ?

First of all, English is not my native language, so perhaps sometime I write something that could be understand in as many different ways as there are readers, and in last period I am under big stress since bus mowed down my sister in law and her daughter, and my cousin was killed and sister in Law is in criticall condition.

Therefore I was perhaps more criticall than I intended to.

As I started this thread because of problems I noticed in CR4 functioning, and because I was too much distressed to keep searching for way to communicate with CR4 Moderator, Administrator or Webmaster after not being able to find way to communicate with them directly (so I concluded they perhaps protect themself from spammers), I did not think I was writting anything off topic.

If I did not notice things that looked highly iregular (not >>illegal<< as You say) to me, then I would not mention it.

You did not stop for a moment and think that I am not writting about >>old<< members with thousands of posts, but somebody quite new with just dozen or less posts........

Sorry that You felt targeted personally, or that You tought I am writing about Your friends.......

If somebody else would write this and I would read, surely I would not get upset as I did not do anything of kind, and if I know that my friends would also not do something like this, I would at most try to find where this happened, to check what poster is writing about....

I still dont understand why You call my suggestions for mending wrong situation (that is strictly my personall opinion, and You need not agree with me) moaning? I merely answered to people that were conversing with me, as I tought this is normal way of communicating, and described something that I perceive as anomaly in otherwise good system.

I am sorry to hear of your family, it is not something I could deal with easily for sure.

And I realise you did not mention "old mens clubs" etc, but that was what I thought you were inferring.

Try and get hold of Admin. And continue on as you did when you were helping others in such a good way. You will find your GA soon increase!

I do not have your link problem but, about three months ago I started getting the new threads list a day later than I had been. Today for instance is 5/2/09. And I got messaged for 4/2/09.

Hope it gets sorted. Give Admin a post and they will help.

That could be for severall reasons, traffic jam on WEB, time difference between India and Europe which is 4 hours in time, so after 20 hrs it is another day in India, so time of sending would be day later........

This time I came to this thread, I was automatically loged in and list of new posts was there......

Maybe someone read our comment after all :-))
