I don't usually mean to be critical, but aren't you the one who asked the question, "Please help me.. I am a new engineer I am so curious on what are the standard test of a CT?"

If "Guest" told you which AC drive he's referring to , what would your response be?

Home work.

Even assuming he asked that question , this question is too simple.

Anyway one expects simple questions when somebody demands

"I want formula"

as my child used to say (some times back) "I want candy"

PS: For calculatiing the power in AC drive you don't have to know the type of AC Drive or do you?

Hi all,

It definately smells like a homework question.

Some higher rated drives would show the power consumptions.

In case of low rated AC drives, You calculate power in output side, by using output voltage and current shown on the drive panel, power factor of motor given in name plate. Add 2 to 3 percent, you will get the input power.

It is difficult to measure the power from input side of drive, since we need true RMS meter, also we need to find the power factor.

Your wanted formula,

P= V*I*cos Ø in case of single phase

P= √3V*i*cos Ø in case of three phase

you must know

1. What is input and output of This AC Drive?

AC Drive can be from 3phase to 3phase, 3phase to 1 phase, 1phase to 1 phase.

2 The main Switch & Configuration of this AC drive ?

Is this use Thyristor ? What is the controller to make Pulse wafeform, to trig the gate of thyristor ? is this using Microcontroller or IC from Factory.

3. What is The Filter ? Is the Filter capacitor ?

becuase to make a good wave, we must consider to the capacitor or inductor that used.

The main purpose is to get various of voltage. This Technology is more cheaper than voltage divider principle that we always used in the past. for example : when we dimm the light to get illumination that we want. The dimmer is using the potentio resistor.

to get exact calculation, we must know integral & differential concept, we must understand allowable of THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) .
