First you calculate what the load is going to be. Say the load calculations determine that the load is 400 amps. You then look in electrical code that applies to your area and select the conductor rated 400 amps or more. Other factors determine if the conductor selected meets the required criteria. Since you had to ask this question, you probably are not qualified to make these calculations. Suggest you get some one who is qualified.
