Automatic Screw Feeders

02/12/2009 10:25 PM

Hi all,

Is there any method to automate screw feeding.

The screw is slotted screw and the major problem is that the L/D Ratio = 1. hence it is not possible to feed it by tubes.

Regards,
Praywin

Contact your local nail rep. from a reputable company like Bostic or RV Evans.

David Cummings at RV Evans (in ST Louis, MO) would be who I would call. 800-489-1107

they have bulk nailing systems that use shakers, and magnets to feed. they could probably come closest to having a answer than anyone would.

Good luck,

Try an internet search under "bowl feeders" or "vibratory bowl feeders" or "pick and place systems".

Basically, the screws would be bulk fed into a hopper, which feeds controlled amounts by shaking through an in line weigh station, into a vibratory bowl. The bowl sits on a series of springs, which, when vibrated through electrical coils, causes a rotational lift and drop action which propels any small items in the bowl in the direction of the vibration.

Movement of the parts is now fully directed and controlled by the skill of the bowl tooler, who creates a path around the inside outer wall of the bowl, usually a continuous spiral step, with any number of ramps and knock off devices to deflect parts that are not properly oriented. The parts, climb the inside wall, creating a line-up of oriented parts at the top, ready for assembly.

A good bowl tooler should overcome the 1D x 1L issue you describe.

Regards

Jim...
