The universe's most abrasive substance.

11/04/2006 11:53 PM

Just a little teaser for you to ponder.

What is the universe's most abrasive substance? It has been known about for thousands of years. It can degrade the sharpest material known. It has weakened aluminum, high carbon steel, stainless steel, tool steel and even titanium.

If we are going to work on this fishy icecream proof, then I feel it is essential that we first determine precisely what we will prove. My time is far too valuable to engage in working on a proof of this nature, only to find that I have proved something other than that which we seek to prove. I say "we" here to include all of us; I am not speaking in an editorial or royal voice. (But I should say that some have considered me royal. Several, in fact, have said that I am a royal pain, which I took to be Franglais, meaning some sort of royal bread.)

If we are to work together on this, I cannot overstress the importance of being concise. If each of us rambles on for several paragraphs, then our time will be consumed in reading a lot of drivel. I, for one, am far too important to spend my time reading drivel.

So, I wonder if we should perhaps discuss the merit of meeting at some central location to get some "face time" and do some team building. I see this last sentence as a reference to a multi-step process: 1. Discuss merit of meeting. 2. Decide to meet, or not. 3. Meet, or not.

To streamline this whole process, then, I suggest that we first begin a discussion aimed at getting a feel for whether we have consensus re my understanding of the process through which we will work. In other words, do we agree, not so much on whether or not we should begin discussions, but rather on whether or not we agree that I am saying that we should begin discussions.

I'd like to think I have begun to bring a team together on this. If we work together, we can tackle this one!!

How cool. I find that some older cars that are rarely seen take on a whole new meaning for me when seen anew. I was a real car nut for years, and I have felt that I had certain car shapes etched into permanent memory. But then I'll see an old car, and realize it looks much different than I remembered it. The Torino was a really good looking car, I see on looking at it anew. I guess when it was a new car, there were so many that it blended in too easily?

Ok, no need to answer – I've already intentionally derailed the flow here several times just to see if we could get the posts over 100. We've done that. I'm walking. Fun question, by the way.

Just to chuck another spanner in the works: -

Female leg hair could well be one of the hardest substances in the universe (to deal with).

My 9-nearly-10-year-old daughter is getting loads of stick from her peers because she doesn't shave her legs! How bl**dy ridiculous does it get?

As I said before, its Antimatter. If you say stubble, then anti-stubble will be able to remove it from existence. If you say PMS, then anti-pms will do it. If you say Toast crumbs in bed, then anti-toast crumbs in bed will do it too. I'm hoping that my anti-abrasive message here will put and to this discussion, and give us life again.

:)

Heat. When i was shaving for the first time i was told only to use cold water as hot water blunted the Blade. My ball and chain always uses hot water to shave her legs.

The only difference i use cold water. She uses hot. i get 3-4 times as much uses out of my razors as she does. And no her leg hair is much softer than my stubble.

Try putting a Chef's expensive knife in a dish washer and see if he is impressed. It blunds the blade.

Antimatter.

I don't know if it's technically abrasive according to your definition, nor if people have known about it for thousands of years, but it is the most destructive.

It obliterates matter, not rearrange it. Also makes the strongest hypothetical bomb. Have fun with your acids.
