I saw on Youtube a short video that demonstrated that ordinary (i.e. primary) dry cell batteries could be recharged !!! Does anyone know why theoretically, or practically, why this wouldn't be true ? It was said that the seals and casings of ordinary batteries are not as good as the rechargeables and that if overcharged, yes, they will explode or leak. It was also said that essentially, the non-rechargeables are "engineered down" from their more expensive but more long-term cost efficient mates. I tried it and the alkaline batteries could be "brought back to life". Perhaps the conventional ideas are just so much salesmanship and marketing for the sake of business growth !!! It also makes business sense, at least in terms of making a profit, that most batteries be made as, one life use "disposable" ones.
Has the fellow on Youtube opened the forbidden box? and in fact the "cheap" batteries are rechargeable - if done with more care regarding time on the recharger and a few other caveats. What's the theoretical truth ? What's the practical truth ? At what point does primary battery recharging become dangerous ? How dangerous ?Could some carefully circuited meter/recharger be developed to make this into a new ball game ?
