Best Valves for HF, HCl, HNO3 Acid Solutions

02/18/2009 11:40 PM

Does anyone have suggestions for valves to be used in acid mixture consisting of

  1. 25% Concentration Hydrochloric Acid @ Room Temperature and Atmospheric Pressure
  2. 45% Concentration Hydrofluoric Acid @ Room Temperature and Atmospheric Pressure
  3. 36% Concentration Hydrochloric Acid + 68% Concentration Nitric Acid both @Room Temperature and Atmospheric Pressure
  4. 200Microns of particles

Have thought of using Ceramics, but was told that Alumina is not suitable for Nitric Acid, and SiC is not suitable for Hydrofluoric Acid, and PFA or PTFE lined valves are not for erosive services.

Please share your thoughts!

This is a reactor application. The reactor is PFA lined, but the particles only occur after the reaction. The valves would open to dump products to trucks when the reaction is complete. This is a purely On Off application.

Hence the valve would have addtional issue of erosion, not to mention about the corrosion by acids.

Thanks!

On off = Ball valve.

Try Nilcor valves. Very solid composite design.

Tefloned line valve are good for acidic +aquous material (MSTL)- if teperature is below 60 deg the pp ( Poly Propylene) valve also good very cheap in compare of MSTL- but life is not long if no of time use

Have a look at borosilicate glass as well. The two manufacturers that come to mind are Roche and QVF (usual disclaimer).
