Cooling/Heating thermostat

02/21/2009 3:15 PM

I don't know if such a thing exists. I would like to maintain a constant temperature automatically from my home heating/cooling system without having to manually switch from "winter/cooling" season. In other words a thermostat that automatically decides whether it's above or below the set temperature.

You may want to try looking into one of these:

Aprilaire 8570 ( around $120 USD )

OR

Propliphix NT20e ( around $260 USD ) ( and this one can be programmed from your computer )

Sorry I took so long to answer, I'm kind of busy

Thanks. Those types of thermostats are used in hospitals.

If it suits your needs and budget, they can be used at home also. And that's all I've got.

Residential "Auto changeover" thermostats have been around for over 10 years. It was pretty simple technology back when we used mercury bulbs but it probably a little more complicated now. The hard thing will be finding someone who can retrofit one on your system unless the necessary low voltage controls are in place and the thermostat wire has the right amount of wires.

Start here: http://www.residential.carrier.com/products/controls/standardprog.shtml

For some time the switch was required because you had either a boiler to light or gas to turn on and pilots to light, etc.

With self-ignition and more modern equipment it ceased being necessary. But yes, the wire count you have sticking out of the wall will determine a lot about expense and difficulty.

Honeywell vision pro 8000 , or if you are concerned about having enough wires you could put in a vision pro iaq , wires shouldn't be an issue since you are currently operating everything anyways

these are the most versatile and easy stats i've installed or programmed yet they are a 24v stat so be sure you have a common wire to the stat

Guest is correct. The Honeywell Vision Pro 8000 series is the best I have come across to date. It is the only one that our company uses. It is fully configurable to any application. Try to get the one sold by the wholesalers as it has more features than the one from your local hardware store.
