Fish Chum Chopping Machine

02/24/2009 12:43 AM

Hi

Can anyone help me with the design of a simple fish chum chopping machine.

I would like this installed on a small boat where 12 Vdc is available and I could use auto starter motor suitably geared down to drive it.

Input would be in the form of fish scraps, small bait fish as well as larger pieces of fish waste including frames etc.

I need this chopped up (not minced) to about 1 inch (25mm) cubes max.

I have tried using a large meat mincer with 4 large holes in the plate instead of all the smaller ones but I still get mince output. I know how to make a screw drive so it is the chopping part that is the remaining challenge. Chopping into 1 inch strips is relatively easy but then getting these strips cut again into cubes in a single pass is the tricky part. Any ideas?

Thanks

Mike

Get the magic bullet! Or try indexing blades, do all of the cutting at one time. My question is, why does the bait need to be so specifically sized? Isn't the oils in the bait that attracts the prey?

They sell these really neat gadgets in some shops called knives, some even sell choppers.

On a linguistic note, just what is it about shredding fish to tempt other fish to their death that gets it called "fish chum"?

Funny!! Slapchop was my first idea also.

Shouldn't that guy be put in jail for exposing his nuts on TV?

Hi Mike

Change the 220VAC motor on a biltong slicer to a 12v motor. However, I would be very wary of any motor-driven chopping machine on a small boat that is rolling and bobbing around on the waves and swells - you might just end up with some "bloody live" bait. (fingertips).
