What is inside a question?

11/07/2006 7:40 AM

I was trying to analyze that why some of the post get so much of the attention where as many remain unseen.

For example in last two days I noticed that virtually everybody visited

"Why Antarctica is more ice then arctic"

And

"What is most abrasive material?"

But no one bother to say even word for "inventor of shopping mall"

Is there something wrong with inventor?

Or

Is there something wrong with post or poster?

Now what is the destiny of this post?

I think it's that 'inventor of shopping mall' doesn't hint at a mentally stimulating debate. I could be wrong......

I hope not. That is the image of Count Orlof from the movie "Nosferatu" if I'm not mistaken.

Just remember folks engineering and vampirism don't mix.

"The same thing we do every night... but how are we going to get a flux capacitor into a chicken anyway?"

OK obscure Pinky and the Brain reference...

Excellent! I was making an even more obscure reference that there must be a link between vampirism and engineering, after all, you can't just go down the store and find all those house hold fittings that can then easily be turned into a religious symbol for wandering vict….er… strangers to find!

PS. I just like the image.

I thought Igor was Dr. Frankenstein's assistant. I don't remember there being vampires in that; but it's been a while.

If you notice there is a difference between views and comments. A decent number of people looked at the shopping mall article, well over 100, but there isn't much you can say about it because it is more of a news piece.

It's not very controversial or thought provoking. People tend to comment more on posts that ask questions or that state something that the readers don't agree with or want to know more about.

Analyzing responses and maximizing Views & Comments

11/08/2006 12:59 PM

Analyzing quantity of responses to other posts, and maximizing your chances of getting valid responses, views, and comments to your own post:

You will probably notice something immediately...You likely will get more comments, though possibly fewer "views" to this question than the post to which you have referred.

Part of the reason is basic human nature, part of it is how that relates to marketing, and part of it is why people post comments at all in this or any community.

If the title of a post provokes an emotional or intellectual response, people are likely to click and see what's up. That's a VIEW.

If the description of the item is interesting and understandable, is written in correct english without stupid acronyms that no-one but the author understands, and actually poses an issue or question that requires a creative solution or has a debatable or controversial answer, you'll likely see more COMMENTS.

MY ADVICE?

1) Make the title a question, a how-to type issue, or a declaration of the most interesting part of the discovery or development.

2) Frame a question or the most-controversial aspect of the issue as precisely as possible in the first sentence.

3) Only provide specifics or details afterward, so they don't fill up the brief description portion of the summary emails and quick-look notes that are visible by those browsing the subject lines. You don't want to bore the reader or keep them from clicking on your post title before they have a chance to get interested and involved!

4) Use standard terminology wherever possible, avoiding acronyms that your secretary would not understand.

5) & if ur interested imho btw, avoid email and instant-message abbreviations like the plague, as it makes your post read like a lazy student on 'myspace' looking for an easy cheat, rather than a serious seeker of input from professionals.

6) Spell check. Write your post in star (or Word) first if you must, and copy/paste it into the box when happy with it. If you do this, be sure to click on the little paintbrush icon on the right end of the bar above the dialogue box, it will let you preview and clean up any formatting issues.

7) Look at any further replies to this question of yours, and compile all the good answers from any helpful members of our community here as a reference for the future!

And humor helps too:
