Corrupted Global Spec Newsletters When Using Vista

Hi qaqcpipeman,

I'm forwarding this on to our newsletter team. It sounds like a browser issue, but they may have heard something and know of a way to help rectify it.

Thanks.

The first time it happened early last year, it came back right away and was good for awhile, but started again as I stated.

It also happens sporadically with a couple of other ezines I receive, but never as bad as Global Spec.

My tech guru keeps telling me that it might be caused by MS Updates but should settle down within a day.

Personally,, I think he is fishing and isn't sure himself.

I've been having the same problem. I thought it was because I switched email accounts from a web-based one to one I access through Outlook.

Using Outlook since I joined GlobalSpec and cr4.

Still looking for help and feedback on this issue.

GlobalSpec IT guy, I have tried every tweak recommended, singed up anew for newsletters, etc, and when I click on any link as below, nothing happens. All other newsletters come through Vista and Outlook properly. You are in my address book also.

This is a response from our tech folks:

This problem is usually the result of a conflict between your anti-virus program and your email program - the combo we've seen the most is with AVG 8.0 and Outlook.

The reason for it is that AVG adds a small bit to the end of an email to certify it as "clean", but then Outlook doesn't recognize it as HTML anymore and displays it as text... which then breaks the links.

To fix this, go into AVG's advanced settings and under the options for email scanning, uncheck the box for certification of incoming mail (this doesn't stop it from scanning your emails, just stops it from adding the certification).

This change will only affect future incoming email, not ones you've already received.

The fix worked, and I never thought about that new little annoying addon from AVG causing the problem.

In addition, it has removed the Web Site scan on searches also, which got to be a pain at times.

Thanks from me also. However, I haven't received any newsletters yet today. But then, they havent' shown up until late evening at times, so I'm not worried.
