Good day all,

I wonder if any body have any information about how to get a de-ionized water,

or if there is a way that we can produce it on site

thank you

How much do you need, and what's the level of purity you need? A fairly small volume (e.g. just a couple hundred liters a day) of low purity DI water can be produced simply by piping tap water through one or more DI columns. On the other hand, if you're looking for a huge volume (e.g. over 100m3/hr) of ultrapure water, you'll need to install a complex 2-pass RO/DI plant that can cost upwards of ¼ million dollars.

We make our own for a Charmilles wire EDM. Contact your local water softener supplier. We go through Culligan for our stuff. Our system uses 3 tanks connected in series. Sorry I do not remember what types of media are used in each but they should be able to set you up. Periodically we need to send out the tanks to be recharged so they are numbered to make sure they are put back in the correct order. I would recommend idiot proofing your connections. I used male adapters on inputs and female couplings on outputs. The DI tanks we have do not have a filter to protect the machine if the flow through the tank is backwards. This results in drawing off the media into the machine. Small hoses and office plates plus small beads of media equals a very long day tearing down the machine to clean it out. Since this happened I have installed a filter on the return line to the machine. I picked it up and a farm supply store. It is the wire mesh type so I do not need to keep paper cartridges on hand.

I agree w/DV1000- (except for his cost estimate which is low!)

How much DI water do you need? What is your quality goal? You can get deionization systems on a scale of a few liters per hour to 100's of cu.m/h and higher.

You can get canisters that are delivered to your factory and changed out by the service vendor on a routine basis for small demand or your can get a capital system that you will have to run and maintain.

You can make DI water with a simple two stage ion exchange process or you can use membrane treatment with ion exchange to make water that is devoid of any soluble mineral content.

You could use an evaporative process.

The more you want and the higher quality that you demand, the higher the investment becomes.

And equally important, where are you located? This will determine what suppliers are available to service your requirements, whatever they may be.

Hello Billibolbol,dt;01/03/2009

Deionized water is pure H2O, free of any metal/mineral ions contanination.Pure rain water during contact flow downwards, ground percolation etc.,adds to mineral contamination of metal ions like sodium[Na]Calcium,Magnesium etc.,[called as +ve charged cations]as well as bicarbonates, carbonates, chlorides, sulphates, phosphates etc,[called as -ve charged anions],which could add to hardness and dissolved solids. The technic of removal of this hardness/dissolved metal ions are called Deionization/Demineralization preferred for industrial grade/boiler/pure drinking water etc.You can get the ion exchange resin plants or reverse osmosis plants depending on your need and water characteristics of your source.Check local yellow pages/websites and contact. They will advice and install a system of your need.
