Coast to Coast with Ethanol

05/31/2005 3:03 PM

Christopher Lapp is driving from San Diego to Washington, D.C. in a 48-year old Cadillac that has been converted to run primarily on ethanol. So what's his biggest challenge? "Once you leave Colorado, there are only five stations until California. A lot of them you need special permission to use because they aren't open to the public. I think I can make it. I've got a pretty big tank, but it might be a bit of a stretch," he said.

Ethanol or not, the '57 Caddy is one smooth ride.

Like making a time machine out of a Delorian, sometimes cool science is all about the flash.
I do think that a more fuel efficient car might have been a better choice though. Either that or going with something better than Ethanol. Bio diesel or vegetable oil would have been better; Ethanol is almost as bad as gasoline for price/environmental issues.
