When a poster receives a GA, is he informed as to which message he wrote earned it?

Yes. You will see it in your user profile. For an example you may go to my profile, or that of anyone who has a GA, and see it for yourself.

Of course, the particular post is marked as a GA on the top left corner with a green thumbs up.

Also you can see these in your profile page, if the "most recent GAs are listed there as the thread on which you earned it. I think something like 10 latest GAs are listed there.

Here is a thread which you started. Note the green box around the GAs and "almost" GAs just below the opening post.

If by "informed" you mean receiving a notification eMail about it, AFAIK, *no*. Much less will anyone be notified about where a GA was earned. You do, however, receive notifications about replies / comments in the threads you subscribed in. Only after visiting those threads will you find out that information.

Unless you look at your own profile. The latest GA's are added by the site, linked to the thread.

Not officially informed like with Yahoo for example.

At Yahoo there is only ONE Best Answer and you are only informed when the question is decided and closed not when it is open for voting. With CR4 the discussion is never closed and GA votes can keep on coming.
