Obsolete Lip Seals for a Massey Tractor

03/03/2009 3:14 PM

I'm trying to locate 2 lip seals (stepped oring) for an old Massey Super90 farm tractor. the O.E. P/n is 191488m1.they go on the clutch piston. I'm unable to get accurate measurements off whats left of the old ones. and all dealers I've called have told me it's obsolete.

You might find this interesting

MF 88 and Super 90 : I don't know if any of you use these old girls any more, but these have held a particular interest for myself and my father for many years. These are of a similar vintage to a MF 65, but the MF88 is a Canadian built drawbar tractor with a Continental 4 cyl diesel (about 68 HP)and the MF Super 90 is a U.S. built tractor, fully equipped with TPL, and a 300 CI 4 cyl Perkins producing about 75 HP. Both are not particularly common, with the MF88 being quite rare in Australia.

Just Google "Massey super 90" and look for your local collectors and restoration clubs.

The above cut/paste was from the third site and is obviously from the Aus perspective. It was from the third site that came up. There wer hundreds of hits.

Most tractor builders publish "replacement parts lists" for older model components sothat you can always get backward compatible parts.

If the clutch is part of the long engine replacement, then Perkins Diesel may be a better contact than your local dealer.

measure the bore size that they fit in and then the shaft that they ride on. you should be able to find something that way. i have to ask what a clutch piston is tho. is that inside the transmission? maybe i can find them with a better description. i have tried to match the oem number but it doesnt interchange with the computer that i have at home. reply back i will look tomorrow. wrench........

Any good bearings, belts, drives wholesaler should be able to cross reference something base one out side seal diameter, shaft diameter, seal body depth and weather it is a single or double lip seal. North of the 49th not far from you are some like; Motion Canada and Canadian Bearing.

I have some suggestions; but agree that it should be possible to cross reference from size.

Google "leather seals"; there is a company which makes leather seals in very small quantities to order. Leather would probably work, and the companies which make neoprene seals want to sell them in large quantities.

A 1957 Ford F100 pickup truck had a hydraulic clutch linkage, and one of these might be identical, and if not modifiable. Try someone who specializes in obsolete Ford parts; Ford will throw rocks at you.

Try the Massey Dealers in England they have a lot of old tractors there they keep running.

A friend suggested you make a clay mold of the piston to get the right measurements.

Hello lonster

Just wondering if you managed to locate the lip seals for your Massey 90 multi-power?

If not...I MAY have found some. I should know in a couple of weeks.

Was helping another friend tear down a 100+ year old barn for the lumber and found a treasure trove of old and odd tractor parts including the seals I needed.

Thanks,

Lonster

Hey, that was fortunate. Would you happen to have a list of the parts you found?

Would you be interested in selling some of the parts?
