Water Treatment Bucket Systems

03/04/2009 11:01 PM

Seems as though either here or on GlobalSpec I read of a low cost effective water treatment system, design, mechanism that had been invented. The discussion of Water caused me to want to find that so as to be able to point to it by name so as to help those without clean enough water to live. Anybody remember that?

Hello Transcendian,Dt;06/03/2009

Bascically, water treatment means , one has to decide 1]whether raw water treatment, for which standard technologies are available ,by which, based on technical requirement/end use parameters ,one can desgn and advise.2]whether waste water treatment for safe discharge/suitability to specific end use,or total grade recycling[zero discharge]. Any effluent treatment system will have ,1]primary treatment[removal of insoluble organics2]secondary treatment[digestion of soluble organics by bacteria and toxicity removal, reduction of BOD/CO D values.-intermediate filters like Sand filter.activated carbon filter],iron removal filter, micron, ultra filters etc.3]The 3rd step being dissolved [ingargonic/semi organics]solids removal by membrane/evaporation/electro dialysis methods.

This needs for professiuonal expert assessment, which will perhaps suggest on end results requirements and cost incurrencies. What I convey is a simple generalization ,as low cost water treatment is not a clear term.If your requirements are specific I can help your cause. It will be my pleasure to have your feed back.

Although it specifcally addresses Arsenic, the general concept is interesting for a home supply system

The most common "bucket filters" I know about are the British Berkfield counter top systems. They use a porus ceramic with sliver to purify microbiologicaly unsafe water. You can see one of many vendors of this type of system here; http://www.doultonfilters.com/gravity.html

If that is what you are looking for, you can probably do a search using Berkfield Filter and your country's name. That should turn up local vendors of the equipment for you.

Have FUN!

You might be talking about the Life Straw. I have pledged 10% of my online store profits to the purchase of these. Rotary is collecting the money in the US. There is also a larger version for a family to use rather than an individual.

Pictures of this device are at the top of every page in my store EXCEPT the entry page. There I have placed a welcome message instead.

I think this is a worthy cause. I hope this helps.
