Data Logging with a Load Cell

03/09/2009 2:04 PM

We routinely perform tensile tests of our product on a tensile test machine with a Rice Lake S-Beam load cell and S520 monitor with a 10,000 lb capacity. Over the 2-3 minutes of the test the load fluctuates considerably. The 520 monitor records peak values and present load.

My Question: What would be the most basic i.e. low cost way of logging the data (load in lbs) versus time and or crosshead travel?

BTW in formulating your replies keep in mind that I'm not a sparky just a BSME wearing a lot of hats these days.

Thanks

Your 520 has a serial RS-232 interface. Just get a laptop PC and you're done. Rice Lake will have s/w you can use, maybe even for free, or they can recommend software for you.
